upgrading from e6600 to e6850 - is it worth it?

Cheers guys for the "helpfull" comments. I will stick with the E6600 and wait for the Quad core CPU's to mature more (and hopefully by then more games will be implenting Quad core technollogy)

upgrading from e6600 to e6850 - is it worth it?

Thats thrown me then, I'm pretty sure that when I bought this MB the Quad cores hadn't come out yet... is the one on the website a new version? Maybe I just need a firmware update? Anyway thanks for pointing me at the website, I shall look into it. Cheers.

upgrading from e6600 to e6850 - is it worth it?

I'm wanting to upgrade my CPU from an E6600 (which I bought a year ago) to the new E6850. Firstly is it going to work with my current motherboard (AB9 Pro)? Secondly is it worth it? - Would the 1333Mhz FSB make any difference I can get my E6600 running at 3.6 Ghz if a bit unstable, but I would...

Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 VS. Abit AB9-Pro (OVERCLOCKING)

I went for the AB9 Pro using an e6600. This config works well if you use 800MHz RAM because you can tell the motherboard that it is in fact 533MHz and then raise the FSB to 400. This lets the e6600 get to 3.6GHz and then pushes your RAM back upto 800MHz. This keeps the ratio at 1:1 and does...

    New Soundcard vs New HardDisk

Thanks to both choirbass and AKJ for clarifying some points. I'm an avid gamer, who prefers online games so loading times would be more important to me. Then again I have seen some dolby 5.1 surround sound headphones recently and think they may be a cool purchase - I mean 5.1 surround sound...

    New Soundcard vs New HardDisk

Yeah I'm running 2 1GB sticks and 2 512MB sticks, unfortunatley I now have no more room for any RAM on my motherboard :(

    New Soundcard vs New HardDisk

Thanks guys, It looks like the consensus is to go for the HD, but I also like the idea of the 74GB raptor and cheaper soundcard. I already have plenty of disk space for my music and other misc, so can save the fast hd for the operating system and games. (I will however give Raid 0 a go first...

    New Soundcard vs New HardDisk

OK needs some clarification... I currently use onboard 7.1 surround sound, and I use two 500GB 7200rpm SATA hd. My main use is for gaming. I understand that the fast hd can greatly reduce loading times, but I've also heard that the Fatality soundcard can greatly increase FPS. I don't know...

    New Soundcard vs New HardDisk

I'm going to upgrade my system and I'm torn between either upgrading my soundcard or my harddisk, which one will give me the best performance increase? The soundcard would be a: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS Edition 7.1 Soundcard. And the harddisk would be: Western Digital Raptor X...

    Overclocking temperatures

Hi guys, I hope this is the correct forum for this post (sorry if it isn't) I have bought myself a new PC with the following specs: E6600 @ 3Ghz, Thermaltake black tsunami dream case, 8800 GTX Abit AB9 Pro 1 GB Geil PC6400 CL4 RAM Zalman CPU Heatsink Cooler (the big 120mm one but I cant...

    Is Geil any good????

Good point well made :) . I would however be looking at overclocking (if not straight away) my PC. I see this as a cheaper way of upgrading my system a year down the line.

    Is Geil any good????

Thats good to hear... £174 for one Gig or £318 for two It seems quite expensive compared to the rest, but its the only CL 3 DDR2 RAM that I have seen on the market.
