How about Macintosh ? I case you feel its not legit to install it on your windows PC & you might loose your data in future (by some means XD), try Virtual Boxing the Mac. Be sure to upgrade your System's RAM before trying out. Best tutorial is here ...

Great. If you get success in Ubuntu installation, then atleast you are away from any hardware issue(s). Just do another check, ensure your HDD is set to run in AHCI mode in BIOS. Sometimes IDE can cause boot up problems.

As you are using the old motherboard, what I suspect is that, your mb might have got a burn. I suggest, try setting the old pc config. On the mb and boot. If it still doesn't run, then mb is the culprit. A huge task but, testing is what we can do as of now.
