it's 5400 rpm and 3.0 connection. So would it have been faster if I moved my files in pieces rather than all at once?

I was moving about 100 gb of stuff from my ssd to my external hard drive and I noticed that while initially it moved files at 300-400 mb/s, it eventually slowed to 16-20 mb/s. My question is: would I have been better off moving it in pieces rather than all at once? Or is there something wrong...

I fixed it by upgrading the bios.

Could someone help me understand why this is happening? I've enabled AHCI and have connected the ssd to a native sata 6g port. ANy help would be appreciated. Thanks!
