thanks, the XP is to drive some ancient peripherals and expensive cad programms, so I need it. more importantly, it did work in the end, either just waiting for ages or installing a new USB flash drive driver made it happen...all running now on xp and in dual boot with win 10 :)

Hi, sadly shredded my OS and had to learn that my system is out of warranty hence Dell doesn't want to help me - does anyone have a recovery cd for Precision 490 ? - for some reason os doesn't recognise some of the on board controller, so if I had the drivers on this media it would be brilliant....

Sorry, probably stupid question: can I have 2 x hdd in raid1 via a PCI raid card for storage and 3rd hdd for os, presumably plugged in motherboard (running dual boot windows XP and 7)?
