Emerald is right. I think that you have to assign a static ip address to the printer and then add that printer to the computer. That way, you should be able to print to it from anywhere that has a network connection.

Was the 98SE connected to the router wirelessly or wired? Did you check to make sure that the IP address ranges were the same? Are any of them connecting to the router or is it that the 98SE computer alone isn't?

Try rebooting the laptop and then hit enter on the setup file of the program you are trying to install. Sometimes when you try to double click on an installation file, you click it too many times and it trys multiple installations.
