If i had a memory controller issue on the chip, i should have gotten the same results on the other board, am i right?

Hello All, Been one heck of a couple weeks. I was plagued with a system crash and on reboot I was greeted with the orange DRAM light on the MB. I did some basic trouble shooting, trying single ram sticks in every slot combination, went and bought a new ram kit from Best Buy and still the same...

Currently have an AMD Phenom x4 965, with an AM3+ MB and GTX 960. Im looking to Upgrade my processor to something that wont bottleneck my graphics card. Looking at staying in the low $200's or $300's if i need a new MB.

The other day i bought a new GTX 970 and installed it but system wouldnt even power on. So i removed the card to check if that was the issue and then all of a sudden i smelt burning and noticed the board fried near the ATX power connector. What could be the issue? I have a corsair 650w PSU...

are they really that good that they are sought after? Apparently the new board has easy OC software built in.

Well i have a new MSI 970a Krait edition to install, since my old 870 has a bad dim slot. My PSU is a EVGA NEX750B

So you pretty much suggesting to just OC my current CPU? I have a new cooler master evo 212 to install for a cooler. I just want to justify the upgrade.

Any suggestions on an upgrade from my current phenom x4? Was thinking of either the FX6300 or the AMD 8350/8320. Right now it seems like some games are using 90% plus cpu when running. im setting a max budget around 160 for this. Any insight would be appreciated. I have a new MSI 970 gaming MB...
