I had 8gb of the same ram before and added 8gb more to make the 16gb. I didnt perform a bios update. Yeah I'll get a new psu soon because i know the one i have right now is not that great. I put the ram in the slots the mobo manual said for me to put them in.

No with the first mobo, nothing would happen, no fans would move or anything but on the second mobo the fans would move and everything would apear to be active but if i hooked it up to a moniter it would show no signal.
