    Oh so should I just purchase a 'unlocked motherboard' that'll fit this case instead? or what about using a different RAM stick?... or the motherboard is the issue here huh?

    Thanks so much for your replies everyone, I now have a better understand on pesky little beast of a problem. Just a thought on my part though, before I try revising my motherboard with mods... would replacing the RAM stick with a different one work?

    I have 2048 MB of RAM installed already. here's the graphics card I bought: http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1226&pid=2030&lid=1 doesn't have the compaq logo on it. yeah I got this compaq at Rent A Center a few years back.
