No, CPUs are socket dependent...whatever CPU socket you have, you must use a motherboard that has matches that specific socket.
thanks for replying... yeah I was looking to replace the cpu that my custom build compaq presario cq5500f came with... which is a Sempron 140 (S) 2.7 GHz (45W). I replaced the motherboard with this one http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/960GC-GS%20FX/
So I'm looking for a cpu for mainly gaming for now, and I was told that intel cpu's just have an overall better performance than amd cpu. but I have a budget of $50 - $70... Any suggestions? thank you again
The motherboard that you linked to will only support AMD CPUs that are compatible with AM3+. So you cannot use Intel CPUs with it. Just because you are using a AMD compatible motherboard, you can use NVidia or AMD GPUs if you want to. With that being said, the cheapest CPU that would even be worth considering is almost $80, and I would not consider it because of the investment is not really worth it for gaming, and there are a few in the $130-$140 range that are much more ideal.
