you should provide specs and details about the system and any behavior you notice before it shutsdown. Anyway you should try to reset BIOS to defaults and use that for a few days to see if it still happens.

Were you using firefox in the background?

It does sound like coil whine from either the GPU or most probably the power supply. Try to isolate which part makes the noise and then probably exchange that part. There's no real solution to coil whine.

Updating the BIOS seems like a good idea, make sure your PC doesnt lose power during the process.

Go into your BIOS and reset all settings to default. Check the health of your Hard Drive, it might be because its dying and when you're editing/writing to disk it just fails.

Does your PC actually shutdown or does it go to sleep? Usually if it goes to sleep some lights remain on.

Try disabling XMP in BIOS and see if it persists. Also disable any auto Overclock settings in BIOS, better yet reset all BIOS settings to default.

You're gonna have to do a CMOS reset, you can search how to do it online and it should also be described in your motherboard's manual (which can also be found online). Re-seat your Graphics Card while you're at it.

This was it. Have had kryonaut on there for a while and no signs of deteriorating temps. It was probably the viscosity, I dont think I made a mistake while closing the GPU previous times.

You are right the corsair one is a lot less viscous, its way easier to spread so that may be why it just flows out the sides. is there any other paste you recommend? For now I'll try the kryonaut and see what happens.
