Question PC Shuts down while using D: Drive.

I agree. A lot of these pre-built PCs and laptops have custom power supplies or custom power delivery on the motherboards that offer enough power for the pre-configured and shipped spec. This is where they are able to save a bit of money. This may be why when you disable the D disk or run in...

News Backblaze: HDDs Tend to Fail Before Three Years of Operation

I had multiple Maxtor drives die. When Seagate bought them, I knew to never buy a Seagate. I always bought WD Blacks until old-school SSDs and then M.2 drives became the craze. WD missed the bus since SSDs became commonplace.

GTX 1080 strange verical pixel offset issue

At this point, I can conclude it was likely the monitor and an issue with the Asus PG279Q. Eventually, I learned to turn the monitor off and back on to get rid of the offset columns of pixels. After replacing the Asus PG279Q with the Alienware AW3418DW, the issue is gone. I have to conclude...

Question Getting ready to add a 3rd (?) PCIe M.2 drive to an Asus Prime Z370-A

Just to recap... I ended up installing the NVMe / SATA combo expansion card and it hasn't affected my video performance at all. Also, three NVMe M.2 drives running over the PCIe bus = No waiting for anything.

[SOLVED] Should I buy Asus prime b450m-a for ryzen 5 3600?

I like the Asus Prime series. It offers a good feature set at a decent price. I'm not an over-clocker so these boards work out great for me. They have notably decent on-board sound. As someone mentioned, you could ask the vendor if the board has the BIOS update already for the newer...

    [SOLVED] Upcoming AMD Video Cards.

I haven't gotten an AMD video card since the Radeon 5850s of 2009. The reason I quit AMD at that time was the constant driver issues and lack of timely support. I have had zero issues with Nvidia cards since 2009 but feel like Nvidia has been taking advantage of the lack of competition by...

Question Are you a brand loyalist?

Because of decades of past experience, I do have some loyalties: Processor - Intel (solid and the de facto standard) though the AMD offerings over the last few years have me considering AMD again. Cooling - Noctua for CPU and Case fans. I've been around the block with many different...

[SOLVED] Which of those cases would you pick?

I'm a huge fan of the Fractal Design Cases. Their cases just make sense. I have a Define R6 and it's the best case I've ever owned. The guts of the S2 look similar and the size of the S2 allows large air coolers such as an NH-D15 if you ever decide to go that route. The original Meshify was...

[SOLVED] Ping spikes and lag spikes in game and ISP is claiming its not their problem

The moral of my story is when I started becoming the really squeaky wheel, I got the oil. I just had to spend a lot of time I didn't want to on the phone with Comcast and at home waiting for their techs. If I had taken my equipment out of the equation years earlier and badgered their support...

[SOLVED] Ping spikes and lag spikes in game and ISP is claiming its not their problem

I had this problem at the house I moved into 5 years ago for 3.5 years. It sucked. Of course, Comcast was quick to blame my equipment even though it was all on their "approved" list. This was the same equipment I had been using at my old house with zero issues. I ended up replacing all of...

Question Why would my computer lag/stutter, in some cases even crash the game.

I had an issue like that once. The PC would have problems only while gaming. It was the new video card. I exchanged it at the store and the problem was gone with the replacement. Now if you get random crashes at other times, too (I had this issue once too)... such as using Excel, browsing...

    News Dell’s 34-inch 1440p G-Sync Superwide is $350 Off Before Cyber Monday

This is a fantastic monitor. I increased my resolution from 2560x1440 to 3440x1440, but decreased my refresh rate from 165Hz to 120Hz and don't notice or miss the difference between 165Hz and 120Hz. I have been running this monitor at 120Hz since day one and have had it for months. It has far...
