My goal is to send my daughter's connections through opendns to filter the content she sees, this sounds like it might be what I need. Thanks for the info!

Is there a way, with dnsmasq or something else, to make 1 network ip (ie: 192.168.0.5) use a specific dns (opendns or something), but have the rest of the ips use the auto (isp) dns? If so, what do I need to use or what is the command line I should use/read up on?

I'd check task manager and see what's using your resources. Sounds like a memory leak in a program. Is cpu usage high? Memory maxed out? Something should look out of place if you look when your system has slowed down.

What are you trying to do? It sounds like you just created a backup and then restored it, which would be a waste of time unless something broke since you created the backup

You can set it up to do a normal shut down with a button press .... I assume you aren't doing a hard shutdown and holding the power button and just giving it a quick press. It's normal to hear the fans/hdd spinning up during startup/under load
