Hi. I have an Asus P6X58D-E motherboard with three PCIe 2.0 x16 slots. They can either work in x16/x8/x8 mode or x16/x16/x1 mode. The 1st PCIe slot is taken by the graphics card. Would a PCIe SSD x16 card that uses only 4 lanes (x4 mode) work on the 2nd/3rd slots?

I'm starting to consider building a new PC partly to get past some current issues and bring it more up-to-date for the SSD world we're in now.
However, at least for my Skylake-era PC, I've found that PCI lanes became a concern I never had before. While in previous PCs I'd have fun adding...
Kind of overwhelmed trying to figure out and understand PCI lanes. Easy to find CPU + mobo chipset lanes, but I don't get how they're taken up, shared, etc.
Is there really no way to just get a report from software? Can't CPU-Z or HWinfo or something else tell me how many lanes in use?
Does...

I know some variation of this question has probably been asked before, but I want to ask afresh so I don't get confused.
I understand enough about CPUs and RAM and even PSUs, built my own desktop but I remain perpetually confused about PCI and lanes.
I have a SSD as the boot drive. I want...
Im about to upgrade my System, and am worried that I may get some bottlenecking due to the overuse of PCIE lanes. I'm not too knowledgeable in this area so it may not even become an issue. Will this system be likely to encounter any such problem, if so how can I reduce it?
OS: Windows 10

Since I've installed my new audio speakers (AudioEngine A5+ powered speakers) I've been experiencing VERY loud crackling while downloading/uploading. It's really driving me crazy!!
1. I'm using a wired internet connection (utp cable); the crackling noise is ONLY when data transfer is happening...
