Upgrade RAM

I have recently dug out and started using an old ASUS Eee PC 1005PE laptop. It is quite slow and therefore I have attempted upgrading it from its current 1 GB of DDR2 RAM to 2 GB. All specifications i have happened upon say it is capable of supporting 2 GB, but it will not boot once I upgrade...

So I want to buy 2 sticks with 16gb each. I could buy 16gb @ 3200MHz but the 2400MHz ones are cheaper even if my computer supports 3200mhz. If I run them in dual channel can I get 1600MHz (dual channel) from each stick making a total of 3200MHz speed???
