Extremely close to buying an Alienware X51, but I feel I have the capacity and patience to build my own PC. Hopefully, it will be a good learning experience.

Approximate Purchase Date: Dec 26, 2012

Budget Range: $1,500

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, Watching Movies, Internet

Are you buying a monitor: No, already have the BenQ RL2450HT http://www.benq.us/product/monitor/rl2450ht/

Do you need to buy OS: Yes, I heard Windows 8 is horrible so I guess I'll be using Windows 7.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg and Amazon

Location: NY

Parts Preferences: Intel

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080

Additional Comments: If you could please include a good internal wireless card in the build that would be fantastic! This will be my first attempt at building my own PC! I would love to play games like DayZ, Natural Selection, L4D1/2, Portal1/2, and future Valve games! Thank you for your help!

EDIT: I do not need a keyboard/mouse/sound card.

Does the MoBo have wifi built in or would I have to find one?

Here is a sample build, including price quotes for quality mid-range keyboard/mouse (find what you like). The sound card is optional, but included just in case you feel like you want everything in one go. You may wish to opt in for a larger SSD too. The Blu-ray drive was included because of your "watching movies" criteria. If you do not use disk based media, feel free to remove that (or replace it with a DVD only option).

As ^, wifi is not recommended for gaming. But if you must, the motherboard comes with wifi (2.4ghz only).

If you have questions or need help on your build, post on the forums and someone (or alot) will help you out.

Most ~$20 USB wifi sticks are the same. That, Medialink, TP-Link, ASUS, are all fairly similar (you might want something that comes with a base so you can move it around to find the best spot). What is the model of your router? Also, how far away from the router will you be? Are there many walls in between? If you are using a laptop, what kind of signal and speeds do you get? Is there an option for ethernet cables?

There are some problems with powerline adaptors though. Some household wiring won't work or will have terrible results.

@ OP, I guess you can give wifi a try, if the result is bad, you can then maybe try some powerline adaptors, if not... Move the router? Or we can come up with more solutions after everything prior is exhausted.
