...but if I disable Window Search (as suggested as a fix to the problem of "100% disk utilization"), wouldn't I lose the wonderful indexing feature, which allows me to find anything on my PC quickly ???

Is it only a BUG which causes the 100% disk usage, which microsoft can/should fix ???

Solution
Well, you know that you can still search for your data right? It would just be a bit slower.
I believe you can adjust your indexing and set it to index only the stuff you use the most.

Hi there Arik__iis,

You really need to provide some more information on the issue.

What is your OS?
It would be nice to go to Resource Monitor and see what is causing the usage.

Is your drive in a healthy state? You can check that out: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility

As for the Windows Search, you can always disable ti -> see if it sorts the issue out -> enable it if the disk usage persists.

Let me know how this goes,
D_Know_WD :)

I am running windows 10, and was thinking I am also linked to the "100% disk utilization" thread which ran there.
I faced it too.
The solution they proposed was to kill the windows Search
(if you look in http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/4-tips-fix-100-disk-usage-improve-windows-performance/
under the second tip: Disable Windows Search for Improved Disk Performance
and also in:
"http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2813275/disk-usage-100.html" under the 'best solution') - and it did work for me, i.e. my disk usage dropped to almost 0. But... I am afraid to make it a permanent fix, since I fear I lose the windows Indexing ability... will I ? (i.e. by following the 'kill windows search procedure they suggest, do I lose the continuous indexing of my stuff ???)
I don't want to lose this feature.... but want to get rid of the 100% disk utilization (in "task manager" "processes", creating slowness of the PC)

Suggestions?

my ultimate solution would be very simple: Microsoft should give and option (activated by default) to do the indexing ONLY when the computer is idle - and I don't mean between keyboard clicks, but, say, after 2-3 minutes it did nothing.
I would be happy to leave the computer on for 30 extra minutes before I go to sleep at night so it does indexing, but I DON'T WANT INDEXING TO RUIN MY PC EXPERIENCE !!! so indexing MUST stop as soon as I touch the mouse or keyboard.
I think this should be very clear.

So, D_Know_WD, thanks for teaching me about the "indexing options" - I'll select your answer as the solution, but we now wait for MICROSOFT to pick up the glove and add this option: "index only when the computer is idle (for more than 2 minutes)" is there anywhere else I should post such a request so that maybe microsoft will see it / may chose to adopt it???
Thanks,
Arik
