guys i just cant take it anymore , i have tried each and every method in order to fix it but nothing works, firstly it was 100% disk usage while idle , but after fixing some little things i've got rid of the idle 100% usage problem , but a new issue showed up , which is when i do simple things like opening internet browser or opening microsoft word the disk usage rises up to 100% !! , so i started to believe that its the hdd not the windows 7 problem

so what do you think guys
sharing your thoughts helps me a lot , and i would appreciate it
Thank you

I would never go back to a mechanical disk for my OS again. Between 5 -7 seconds from the time my machine POST's to the login screen in Windows 10.

you see the problem is that i only want to buy the samsung evo 850 solid drives because they are the best but in my country they can cost me alot to get a good one ... , so i think i'm gonna purchase one online from ebay :(

Sorry to hear that. Attending these forums the way I do, you get to hear how oddly things are priced in different places of the world. Australia, India, Pakistan, the Middle East in general. Sometimes all the prices are seemingly high, and sometimes only certain items.

The Samsung 850 EVO is an excellent drive. My oldest son had me put one in his computer late last year. My wife and I both have Samsung 840 EVO. They are great. Like I said before, I'd never return to a mechanical drive to boot from again.

while i was searching for evo 850 ssd i've noticed a seller in ebay and he is located in my country , and the weird thing was that he is offering samsung evo 850 250gb ssd for 75$ , ps sandisk ultra II 480gb ssd for 115$ !!! , i've asked why he is selling them for a cheap price, and he told me because they are not covered by warranty at all ..... i'm now in a huge conflict :( i don't know whether to a risk and buy it or not ........ its really hard to decide

so i've got the EVO 850 250GB SSD and unforchenatly that didn't solve anything :( , but i'm glad that i've got that great SSD , so let's continue on finding the source of this issue , i doubt its the mobo , i don't know why but i have a feeling thats its the mobo

So you've set up the SSD as your boot drive. Do you have a screenshot of it high disk usage?

Could you also provide a screenshot of your Device Manager like the one below?

I am interested in seeing what controllers you have and what driver version you are using.

I assume you are running Windows 7 64 bit now?

If so what drivers have installed? If it's Windows 7 and you haven't installed all or some of these proceed with downloading these and installing them:

Intel INF

Intel Rapid Storage Tech ** this one is important for the issues you are experiencing

Intel Management Engine

These are the important ones for your issues. Feel free to visit GigaBytes website for the rest if needed.

OK well it looks like you are using the Intel SATA AHCI drivers for you Intel SATA controller. This will provide a significant improvement over the MicroSoft Standard AHCI driver.

I assume the second Standard AHCI Controller is for the Marvell controller. Do you use this controller? If not, I would disable this controller in the BIOS. Please do not use this controller for any boot devices, so in your case don't have either you SSD or HDD plugged into these SATA ports. Actually I don't like third party controllers at all. They usually don't play nice with ATAPI devices either, like DVD, BD-ROM, etc.

I'm pretty sure it's turned on. You had two Standard AHCI controllers before installing the Intel AHCI driver. Now you have the Intel AHCI Controller and one Standard AHCI Controller which means the third party controller is enabled. Leaving it enabled won't hurt anything, but since you aren't using it (at least I hope not) it's better to free up the resources (IO ranges, Memory, and IRQ) being used by it.

Now on the off chance that you have a drive connected to any of the Marvell controller ports, they will no longer be visible in the BIOS. In this case you will need to move the SATA cable(s) to the Intel controller ports.
