Hello! My friend is looking to buy a new gaming computer! But, before he makes any choices I thought we'd better get a little advice. Here goes!

Budget: $1000 and down

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, surfing the internet, school work

Parts Not Required: Monitor

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: otvtech.com (local computer store)

Country of Origin: Canada

Parts Preferences: No preference, only compatibility among the parts.

Overclocking: Maybe, not in the near future

SLI or Crossfire: If the build can support it.

Monitor Resolution: Honestly, no idea

Additional Comments: 1TB HDD, 8GB ram, wireless internet card (TrendNET TEW-643PI(?))

This is probably over your budget as i don' t know what the taxes etc are. However something like this:

Overall the selections at the place are pretty bad, while the quality may be good choices are quite limited.
To get it lower you'll probably have to go with a lower end graphics card, but this one would play real nice at 1920x1080.

Sorry to do this but what could we go with if we dropped the budget down to $800. After looking at fees, and other peripherals he wants, he would like to spend around there. Thanks.

Well it's still a couple of bucks over but it can't really be helped:

CPU: to i3 2100 $125.32
GPU: to PowerColor 6770 $136.80

Otherwise the same.

You know, when upgrading, changing the CPU is very complicated and time consuming when compared to simply changing the videocard. A lot of screws, thermal paste...cooler etc..therefore....

Get the i5, you wont regreat it going quad-core. Use intel graphics for a 1 month or 2, and later on add in a video card, this will give you time to get some money, maybe a few extra hours at work? Or simply beg for 2 dollars on the street everyday, after 2 months you get a $120 videocard.

Im crazy, I know.

hmm...dear i have 2 pcs..

1. I5-750 (2.66Ghz), 4GB Ram Kingston, 500 HDD
2. I7-960 (3.2 Ghz), 6GB Ram OCZ Gold Series, 1TB HDD

And I Put HD5870 On Both System And Checked Performance...There Is Only 10 Fram Rates Difference Between Both Pcs...

So, I Suggest U To Go With..

I5-750 (2.66 GHz)

6GB Ram (G.skill Brand) Tri Channel

MSI Or Asus Mother Board (Both Is Good) Asus P7P55 LX

HDD Wht U Need....

OCZ 700W PSU

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD6870

And The Other Parts U Can Get At Less Price...
