Driver Heaven has an X1800GTO VS. 7600GT shootout posted, and for those of you not wishing to read it, the Radeon loses.

They're pretty close, IMHO... different reviewers with different systems call either the winner.

But what everyone can agree on is, Overclocked, an X1800 GTO will absolutely ruin a 7600 GT... that's enough to tip the buying scales methinks.

(well, almost everyone... you'll probably disagree for the sake of being cantankerous)

IMO, it should be a federal crime to buy a Porsche with an automatic. You should pay an extra tax at purchase. You should also pay a seperate sales tax if you buy an SUV. I'm not going to get into my political and environmental beleifs, but SUVs need to be taken off the road; they're nothing but gas-guzzling pigs which people never drive off road.

I disagree for a few reasons. A husband & wife, 3 kids, enough gear for a weekend, while towing a boat or travel trailer. I'll take the SUV, you can have the Porsche. Then on the way home some idiot or drunk plows into you, which would you rather be in? I'll tell ya, I'd be glad not to be in some little sports car or econobox when that happens. I'd put my family in the 8 thousand pound SUV thx. DOn't get me wrong, I love sports cars/muscle cars and wish I could afford one for the weekends. 2007 Shelby GT500 would do for me. I just think although too many people own SUV's, and some of them drive like idiots, there are still many good reasons to own one.

I have the evga 6800 gs oc agp. I know that you said your going PCI-E but they do have PCI-E versions of the GS. I play BF2 on high settings (all save for AA and medium textures) and get between forty and seventy fps. It really is the best budget card out there in my opinion and would be a great card for whatever rig you get.

😱 Actually, the Mazda 3, Eclipse GSX, and Redline are all pretty darn close in slalom performance. Close enough that the better driver would probably win a race in each of the three vehicles if they were willing to allow each other to drive the other's cars. Personally, I always give people the benefit of the doubt. I don't have much slalom experience, you'd probably take me all three races if we were racing stock vehicles. Since the cars are stock, it's hard to say for sure, but it sure sounds like a good time. I have been hoping to hear more about the new Mazda's (3 and 6) so if you know a good place for me to learn, send me a link. I live in the South Central Part of Wisconsin (Madison) area, so if you'd like to go to any track sometime, I'm game. Got to find more enthusiasts that are up for these sorts of things. I always get promises from people who don't follow through. I hear there are some some good torque braces and motor mounts finally available for a lot of sporty compacts. Huge difference in launch for most. Good Luck with the N02 testing!

Funny story for you Angry. I used to work at a Pontiac dealer before I moved on to Mitsu (sometimes I miss the Pontiac people still), and the option for a Manual on the new GTO (04-06) costs more than the auto (which is the base trans), but the mileage difference means the manual does not get slapped with the gas guzzler tax, and the auto does. Result: Manual trans is still cheaper even though it is not standard! Too funny. Although I certainly understand that SUV's are safer to be in in an accident, that wouldn't be the case if SUV's weren't on the road hitting things all the time. Heck, most compacts with side air bags do VERY well against things their own size. Not blaming the SUV's themselves though, people REALLY need to start driving them like the SUV's they are. Sorry, they ARE NOT cars.

And as Cleeve and I both know, the 6800U has almost no headroom on the core. My BFG is 425/1100 out of the box as opposed to 400/1100. Max OC is only 435/1210.

Yeah. Crappy overclockers for sure, I put an Arctic Cooling NV5 (if I remember correctly) on mine and it didn't make a lick of difference.

I'll tell you something though Paul... I've been doing some more hardware review stuff, and 've had a chance to play with a 7600 GT... I tried it in Far Cry with HDR and it was very smooth. Surprised the hell out of me, it was nowhere near as slow as my old 6800 U rig. Only about 10 fps slower than my X1800 XL (at stock 500/500 speeds).

I'm beginning to wonder if the 7600 GT isn't a much better HDR candidate than I used to think. I know my CPU is much better than the AthlonXP I used to use the 6800 ultra with was, I dunno if it's making the difference, but I'll tell you man... the 7600 GT is a viable HDR'er. I'm changing my tune on this one after seeing it in action.


When did you get an X1800 XT, by the way? Damn, I must've missed it. You enjoying it?

you forgot to tell us the settings....even 6200 can play far cry well enouh but on lowest posible settings...you get max fps with vertical sync :lol:

again...what`s the matter with you guys you forgot the resolution...you can have these settings at 640x480 and you can have them at 1280x960 .....
x850xt shiet can blow 60 fps (vertical sync with desktop) all settings to max aa4x af16x (i do mine from catalist) 1280x960 :twisted: ..that card is perfect for that game ... not a surprise to see another game perfectly playable on absolute maxim settings in game including aa and af

Most of the people that own SUVs (95% probably) never drive off road and never tow a boat/motorhome up the side of Pikes Peak. A lot of these people could make do with a Corolla/Civic; the SUV is just for the image.

About 6 months ago, I went to Grand Rapids for the weekend with my family. There was heavy rain on the way there, and quite a few rollover crashes. All of the rolled-over cars were Chevy Blazers.

People think that they're unstoppable in their 4WD SUV, even in snow and ice. So they drive a lot faster than they should, and they cause accidents. Who wants to continue talking about video cards?
