I have an MSI 6gb 1060 on the way.
It is to replace an msi 660ti.
That has 2x 6pin power connectors in it.
The 1060 requires an 8 pin.
The 6 pin cables in the box and on the 660ti have an extra two posts off to the side, can these be used?
The 6 pins in the 660ti are coming right off the PSU, but the psu (a corsair) has many unused 8 pin outs.
The only cables in the box I keep the cables in are 8 on one end (with two unused pins) and 6 plus 2 on the other.
Is there a way for me to book up this 1060 with what I have Now?

Thanks in advance.

Ok managed to get it in the top slot.
Still sitting on the motherboard splash screen for ages.
Either I have screwed this, or it came screwed.
I am totally at a loss and and the end of my very limited knowledge.

Can you ensure you have the latest bios on your system.

It has been a long time since I saw a video card hang the bios.

A blank screen until Windows may mean the card is not the primary video device in the bios. You do NOT seem to have any kind of onboard video so that should not happen so it generally leaves bios issues.

It is very strange, I popped my 1070 into a Core2 system and it started right up(no drivers because it has Vista).

Interesting fact about my Asus 1070 is the everything is ok LED lights up even with just a 6 pin. As said above, you do NOT gain any actual 12 volt wires, simply tell the video card it can draw 150w by sensing one ground and you gain a ground for some reason.

The current capacity of the wire is higher so many cards will even pull over the limit(and as long as the power supply can handle it, things work).

You do not by any chance have another system to test the video card in do you(maybe a friend has a gaming system or something)?

Never updated a bios, is it easy to Do?

Ok

Got it working in Windows but afterburner is still not seeing details on the card.
Turns out there is a rom toggle in the bios and the card now let's the system boot normally.
But there is still an issue somewhere.
I cannot update the bios thru quick flash and cannot find an @bios download anywhere

@BIOS is on the gigabyte website under Download - > Utility

Make sure you are 100% sure you have the right bios. Do not flash if you think you may loose power or anything because failed flash can cause all kinds of issues.

Flashing a motherboard bios also resets you custom settings. You may have to redo them. Write down anything you adjusted in the bios first.

So you say the toggle switch got things working aside of the MSI AB issue? Are you on the latest version of AB?

It just started working!
The rom change fixed things for some reason.
It took installing the drivers 4 times tho.
Thanks to all for the help.

New massive issues now, was trying to play a game yesterday and then find out windows has disabled the card for some reason, then the colours on the scree broke up.
After reset it would not post at all, I swapped slots, power connectors, and even the rail on the PSU and finally it boots after 4 hours of trying but the card is still showing as disabled.
Bad card all this time? PSU or MB issue? HELP!!!
