I have an MSI 6gb 1060 on the way.
It is to replace an msi 660ti.
That has 2x 6pin power connectors in it.
The 1060 requires an 8 pin.
The 6 pin cables in the box and on the 660ti have an extra two posts off to the side, can these be used?
The 6 pins in the 660ti are coming right off the PSU, but the psu (a corsair) has many unused 8 pin outs.
The only cables in the box I keep the cables in are 8 on one end (with two unused pins) and 6 plus 2 on the other.
Is there a way for me to book up this 1060 with what I have Now?

Thanks in advance.

I was hoping that, but the extra two on the end have a little bump on the side, do they just fit in the 1060?
I hate for it to arrive and then have to wait a few days to use it due to no power.

THIS.
The 6-pin portion supports 75W, and the extra two pins add another 75W capability.

6+2 is identical to an 8-pin (which is why 6+2 is so common as it is more flexible to use).

It's a bit tricky to line up but it's IDIOT PROOF in terms of finally plugging in. Just make sure it's fully inserted.

By "tricky" I just meant that:
a) you might put the 2-pin on the wrong side (though you can't insert it that way as it's idiot proof), or
b) may have difficulty holding the 6-pin and 2-pin together whilst inserting

Once it's in there it works fine, and yours may be easier than mine anyway.

The old card was in an 8x the top 16 is too close to the do I and won't fit, can it go in the bottom 16x?
I was always told put it in the top one.

It lights up

But nothing else past the bios splash screen, I did change the boot to slot 3 and not 2 as it was originally if that was the right thing to do??

Do I put it in the 8x the old card was in and give up any benefits?

It may be a good idea to check your manual to see if anything is required for the 3rd slot. What board is it?

An x8 performance hit should be minimal on a 1060.

Does the card fit the top slot? It looks close, but may fit under the cpu cooler.

This is the closest I have come across.

It was so close I have to bend the fan clip on the cooler.

Where do people get the impression that two ground wires provide an extra 75-watts of power? The sense ground pins simply "tell" the graphics card a power supply with 150-watt PCIe capability is connected. And none of that lies in the connector itself but how the PSU internal rails are set up. That Corsair hx850 unit is a single 70-amp 12-volt rail and will be able to supply more than enough power. In any event, that unit has 6 x 6+2-pin capability and will suit your needs.

Ok, if you leave it for long enough (10 mins) it gets I to Windows.
The hdmi is not working yet so using dvi and installing drivers.
Hwinfo says this tho:

Is that a worry?

Plus that and afterburner cannot see the card details at all...

EDIT
Just reset after installing drivers, and it's stuck in a turn on 4 seconds turn off look
Something is not right
