Hello, my monitor is defect and I have to buy a new one. I have a msi gtx 970 and I cant decide between the BenQ 144 hz 1080p monitor or the dell ultrasharp 1440p 60 hz monitor. I mostly play games like league of legends, far cry 4, payday 2 etc, so I dont play fps like csgo, cod or bf4. Can someone give me some information on what will be the best buy for me? Thanks in advance

In that case, I personally recommend 1440p for you. To me games look crisper and more detailed at that res, plus the 970 has ample power to run anything you mentioned with ease.

144hz is more suited to FPS imo, again this is opinion. Others will tell you to go that way.

The best thing you can do is go to a big store/stores which show off both techs. This way you can compare and look at which you like more.

The most important thing here is not what people say or reviewers tell you is "better" or "more advanced" it is about what YOU feel is comfortable and nice to look at.

Tom's lists good options in both categories (in a few days I imagine an April update may come along):

Depends on the game...

If you have ever watched a program on a TV that doesn't play content back in its native FPS setting (24 fps) you get that weird "has it been slightly sped up?" feeling.

That is 144hz. It simply allows for more than 60 fps to actually be displayed. The honest truth though is, our eyes are 25fps and so you are talking about a minimal change in perception at a lower res vs 1440p which is a far higher res .

To really see the difference you have to compare them side by side. Reading about it is like studying a subject University...you theoretically know what's going on...when actually you don't really know till you've been there and done it.

Hello! As someone who has been gaming for the majority of my life, i have seen the evolution of visuals and technology from CRT to the current IPS/TN panels. In my younger years i was an FPS and RTS nut, and now i mostly play RPG / Action Adventure games. Here are my thoughts :

Will you notice 144hz? YES. I notice it just moving windows around on the screen, everything is smoother that your system can render quickly enough. Even the mouse moves smoother. Is it a huge difference over 120hz? - No.

I recently switched from a 1080p 120hz to a 1440p 144hz gysnc monitor. Both of these are TN panels, and both were over 500$. If you are staying under 500$ get a great 1080p 120hz monitor. If you are going to spend over 500 i would wait and get a 1440p monitor. Whether you go 60hz or 144 is up to you. At 1440p your set up will probably not be able to push much more than 60fps anyway, so getting a 144hz monitor at 1440p is probably a waste; but if you plan on upgrading it would be a good way to future proof your display.

Just my 2 cents! Also, if you value colors over response time, go for an IPS panel instead of a TN panel.

His system is more than capable of "pushing" more than 60 fps lol, even at 1440p haha.

If you look at my system is compares quite well to his and I have no issues firing 3 digit FPS onto the screen in pretty much any title.

The 970's 3.5GB could be the only "problem" as titles evolve...

However the situation is nowhere near as dramatic as you put it and I do agree that 1440p will be more relevant in years to come compared to high Hz 1080.

Not for visuals imo...The 1440 ips panel will look MUCH more beautiful.

The 144 Hz will simply seem very smooth.

Neither...

Beyond a certain FPS range you will physically not notice...ESPECIALLY on titles that I can draw more stunningly by hand than a PC like LOL and CSGO.

144Hz is pointless for titles like that. So is 1440p to be honest...

Look dude...it is crystal clear:

1080p 144Hz: Smooth smooth smooth...looks normal otherwise

1440p 60Hz IPS: More detail, more colour vibrancy, way better looks, more eye candy, almost equally as smooth because YOUR EYES CANT TELL ANYWAY xD

Go to a shop which has one on display and make your mind up.

Otherwise I think the majority of people will agree 1440p is the way to go.
