Hello, I get high CPU usage in games like fortnite and bf5. I know that this isn’t technically a bad thing, but as it almost reaches 100% in a single core, i get game stutter and the gameplay isn’t very smooth. I would like to get rid of the stutter and smooth my gaming out. What should i upgrade first?
I5 6600k OC to 4.8 212 evo air cooled
MSI r9 390
Hyperx 2133 DDR4
Asus z170a mobo
evga 850 watt bronze
I am currently thinking about upgrading to a used gtx 1070, or spending quite a bit more money for an i7+new mobo+ram

Solution
Upgradiing the GPU will make it worse, not better.

If you want to play at 1080P and 144 Hz you are going to need a platform upgrade. Or at the min upgrade to an i7 6700K or 7700K.

Buying a used 1070 is a very bad idea, buy a new one.

Start from the cpu upgrading that to an I7 can be good and then upgrade the cooler and check your performance out if you notice anymore lag or shutter then try to upgrade the GPU but the best thing is to buy it brand new that way it has warranty because one thing about used cards you do not know how long they been using it or they overclocked it or messed with it.

You might also want to check and see how much stuff you have running in the background before you start spending money.
If you can free up a bunch a CPU and RAM by shutting down background and start-up Applications, you might not even have an issue.

What setting are you running in the games? If you are maxing out everything, you will get framerate issues. If everything runs smoothly on low settings, then you have to make the call about upgrading hardware.
