Question 1080p 75Hz vs 1440p 60Hz

Hey there,

I'm looking for a monitor for browsing, programming and also some gaming, I found two great ones. Lenovo L24p-10 (1440p 60Hz) and Acer Nitro VG240Y (1080p 75Hz FreeSync). Which one would be better? Which one is more futureproof? Is 15Hz more really that more smoother as people say?
I don't have a great GPU yet, but im considering buying a budget one (GTX 1150Ti whe it comes out), which one is easier to handle for the GPU?
I can't put the 1440p monitor on 1080p when i'm playing a heavy game because it will become blury.

I doubt that it's going to be significantly better than a 1060, which is decidedly a 1080p card and a stretch at 1440p, so I wouldn't buy a 1440p monitor unless you envision a second upgrade in the not-too-distant future.

I bought an Aus 24' 1080p monitor with 1ms response time and freesync @75hz. This was for my backup PC so I really didn't have high expectations for it but I wasn't concerned because this was for a backup system. I have to say I'm really surprised at how much smoother 75hz is over 60 with Freesync on. I'm seriously impressed with it. (I also have a 1440p, 144hz on my main system so I have something to compare it to side by side)

My personal opinion -- I would choose 1080p @75Hz over 1440p @60Hz.

1440p is about details. Edges are cleaner, the entire picture is smoother and more realistic with less angularity.

Hz is refresh. Because of electrical standards in the US, 60Hz refresh matched up with 60Hz supply nicely on those old CRT monitors. However, some ppl are affected by light at 60Hz, giving headaches, eyestrain etc so faster refresh was adopted with 72-75Hz being common. The bonus to faster refresh is only noticed in motions. With time periods being shorter you'll get a motion printed 75x instead of 60x in a second, making things smoother.

So what's the choice? Better picture or smoother gaming

The issue is the GPU he plans on getting won't handle 1440P.

Maybe. The gtx1660ti lands it somewhere between the 1070 and 2060. With the way nvidia is upping the game with these releases, I'd not be entirely surprised if the 1150ti landed between the 1060 and 1070 in ability. For many games, even the 1060 is ok with 1440p/60Hz even if a setting or 2 like grass detail or viewing distance needs to be lowered. With the additional detailing available in 1440p high settings look very close to ultra settings in 1080p.

But for the price, you can't touch the gtx1660ti, it's similar to current gtx1060 pricing and a superior card at just 120w to a Rx580.

1060: 122k
1050ti: 84k
Leaked bench 1150: 115k

That puts the 1150 barely under a 1060-6 and ahead of a 1060-3. I'd expect a 1150ti to be somewhere around 140k
