Hey,

I'm going to upgrade my gpu in about 1-2 months and since I'm a nvidia fan I was looking at the GTX 680 (MSi Twin Frozr III edition) since this card only have 2GB vRAM do you think this should be enough for 2-3 years for 1080p gaming? Or will the gpu vRAM bottleneck in about a year. Please let me know.. I'm gonna use this card mostly for gaming.

Regards,
Brian

More info would be helpful ;)
I very much doubt 2Gb of VRAM is going to cause any problems for the foreseeable future, most cards start to run out of steam long before they can take advantege of so much memory anyway.

Well, I game at 1920x1080 (1080p) and I'm not planning on eyefinity or something like that. So is 2 GB vRAM enough for the coming 2-3 years or should I wait and pick up the 4GB version of the GTX 680?

CPU:Intel Core i7 870 @ 2.93 GHz
MOBO: ASUS P7H55
RAM:8GB Kingston DDR3 1333Mhz RAM
PSU:Corsair TX650M

Ah! Now we're cooking with gas!
No problems I can see there, plenty of CPU horsepower and a good quality PSU to keep everything well fed.
Predicting what's going to happen in a few years is, frankly, impossible but the GTX680 is the fastest card available
(well, sort of available;) ) ATM. If your wallet/credit card can stand the shock I'd say go for it, you'll find nothing else that will last as long.

Thanks for the fast response man! :)

Keep an eye on the thread, I'm sure others will have other ideas and it's always good to get advice from more than one source before making a decision.
BTW, the i7 handles overclocking well...Just an idea.

You dont even need 2GB, and you will only need anywhere close to 4GB if you are playing at Ultrahigh resolutions; you will be fine. Judging by how slowly VRAM necessity has increased, you wont need 4GB for a while, if ever.

I don't have an aftermarket cpu cooler. So I don't think it's a good idea to overclock it yet.

@ Firewood B B: No, it's not, not on stock cooling.
But then again, decent coolers are not that expensive ;) .
As for the GTX680: WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR FOOL?! GET THE CARD SUCKER! ENJOY YOUR GAMING AND GET ON THE JAZZ, MAN!

If you can get your hands on a GTX 680 get the damn thing and don't look back lol. I recently got an EVGA superclocked+ 680 and I'm completely blown away by it's performance. Coming from an HD 6950 the difference is incredible at 1080p. Like others have said 2gb is plenty until you start messing with eyefinity/surround resolutions, but even right now on my surround setup 2gb is enough with 1 card. I know you said you're an Nvidia fan, but don't look past the HD 7970. It's a great card as well and has an extra gig of vram which may be a little more "future proof". Not to mention there are plenty of them in stock.
