Hi guys, my i7-930 has finally met its match with Cyberpunk 2077 where even at 4K, it cant feed my 1080 ti proper in open city traversing. My CPU is yes 10 years old. I have been in desperate need of an upgrade. I can get a 10850K with my employee discount for 240 bucks or wait for Rocket Lake or go for the 5900x (no discount as I don't work at AMD lol). It would appear 5900x woud be a more expensive upgrade but does have newer features from what I hear than 10850K. Thoughts?

I still have an old x58 system, I've been planning an upgrade for years but it's been perfectly serviceable with a GTX970 in it for 1080 gaming so I haven't bothered.. yet.

Just for fun.. the X58 platform is a monster overclocker, and with a bios update a 1366 Xeon will slot straight into most boards. My old i7-920 ran into bottlenecks a couple of years back so I swapped it for an X5680 (similar performance to an i7-980).

If you have a decent GPU cooler then I would whole heartedly recommend buying a £20 X5675 and overclocking the bejeezuz out of it, as a last hoorah for the system! They laugh at 4GHz on air... Just make sure you renew the VRM thermal paste while you're in, it dries up.

Problem is the 930 hit a wall with Cyberpunk 2077. I see 97% CPU utilization and notice audio slows down sporadically in game.
