Question 13700k vs 13900k vs 7950x/7700x with 4090 in wqhd

Hey,
I've checked many posts and benchmarks and still cannot decide.
I am currently running 9900k with the strix 4090 and I am facing a lot of stutters and leaving performance on the table. I am rocking a wqhd 175hz monitor and would like to get most out of it.
I'll be getting ddr5 and a 420 AIO in any case.

for intel 7200 ddr5 CL32 and for AMD 6000 ddr5 CL36 or CL32 (both of them G-Skill)

I am considering these 4 options:

CPU	Motherboard
13900k	Asus ROG hero Z790
13700k	Asus Strix Z790-E
7950x/7700x	Asus Crosshair X670E hero

I am planning to fiddle around with the OC to get the most out of it.

I am also aware of the 7950x 3d v-cache around the corner, but patience is not my strong side (Also there seems to be an Intel refresh so there will be one more upgrade path for Z790)

It's mainly build for gaming (but I tend to have a lot of programs opened and chrome tabs), there isn't really a budget just trying ot figure out the best possible solution

I am currently more leaning into 7700x with AM5 and the Asus Crosshair being a better platform with 4 m2 and 2 of them PCI-E 5, not that I would use it but at least it's there, and the 7700x not really leaving out any performance.

I"m running the 6000 cl36 (it works great).

Any CPU you get will be an upgrade.

I would worry less about overclocking and just go with a cheaper board if it was me.

Your still going to improve your performance like crazy.

Single core for 9900k is 2949 and for the 7700k its 4278.

Unless you have unlimited money I would not buy these boards, I mean 700 dollars for the x670E.

13700k has even a better single core score than the 7700k.


I think the 13700k or the 7700x will be a HUGE upgrade without overclocking or spending over 500 on motherboard.

if you live close to a microcenter you can get "free" 32GB CL 36 6000mhz g.skill ram with the CPU. Get a decent board and you will be good to go.

In the end, I've gone with 13900k with the Strix z790-e, for me it's a peace of mind I've go the best at the time of buying and should be set for the next few years.

The improvement is incredible and I am really happy with it, no stutters and issues (only slight with XMP on the 7200 ddr5, but that I've solved).
