I have a EVGA GTX 970 SC, I play mostly games.

Will I benefit more from 144hz @ 1080p or 1440p @ 60hz?

Let's say I play some old games, will I notice 144hz or 1440p more?

Solution
Yes 1440p at lower settings will look better than 1080p on high settings on most monitors 24" or above, smaller monitors it would be the other way around but there are only a few 1440p monitors less than 24" ever made. You also have to count in the image quality of the monitor, as some are better than others. Also type of monitor (IPS or TN panel) will make a difference in image quality, so do some research before you buy.

144hz monitors are great for fast paced gaming like mp shooters or racing, whereas 1440p will give you less fps (which is not ideal for fast paced games) but a higher detailed image. So it depends on what sort of gamer you are.. I would also add that 1440p on the 970 would not allow you to run most games on max settings.

Thanks for the reply, I am not a fast paced gamer, I play solely for fun, cs:go and all that stuff isn't my type of game. I play a lot of old games and newer ones like GTA V.

If I set my res at 1440p and then lower graphics quality, games will still look good because of the resolution surely?

It really depends on whether u wanna play modern games or old games....
If the games are old and doesnt require a bunch like modern games id say get the 1440p 60hz monitor..
But if ur playing the new games as well with the gpu u have 1080p 144hz is the best way to go man..
