what happens when a 1080 hd image is shown on a lcd computer display of resolution 1680x1050, is the image shrunk to 720 or is it shrunk to 1050?

Wouldn't show, period. You'd have to send a 720 signal.

1080 = 1920x1080 (not even close to 1680x1050)
720 = 1280x720

well it does show up because i have done it, was just wondering wat the display/graphics card reduces the resolution to
