16GB DDR3 Or 8GB DDR4?

Hello everyone! I Am building a rig and my question is should i go for 16GB of 1866mhz ddr3, or do i get 8GB of 2133mhz ddr4? Thanks so much guys!

Well keep in mind only certain cpu's and mobo's can run ddr4 ram. What are your full specs? I can tell you what ram you can run based off that.

1) For Skylake such as the i5-6600K you would use DDR4
(there are DDR3 boards for Skylake but DO NOT GET ONE as it can easily destroy your CPU).

2) DDR3 is for Haswell such as the i5-4690K (i.e. Asus Z97-A motherboard, 2x4GB DDR3 1866MHz CAS9 kit memory)

3) 16GB vs 8GB: the amount depends totally on what you're doing. You won't benefit currently from more than 8GB for gaming but unless you have a tight budget I'd suggest 16GB (2x8GB kit).

I suggest rephrasing your question as suggested. Such as:

"I'm building a gaming build and have $800USD for the case and internal hardware... what's the best choice?"

People can put together a build using pcpartpicker to balance the parts for you.

(Note that Skylake is more expensive. I suggest Haswell, and if the budget is tight an i3-4170 might be a good choice CPU but again we need more info)

well it depends, im waiting to get motherboard and cpu because i dont whether i should get ddr3 or ddr4, i do have this though:
GTX 970
240GB SSD
1TB WD Blue HDD

You won't notice much of a speed difference between the two but DDR4 is just future-proofing your system as is skylake/x99. Id go for a skylake and 8gb DDR4 setup
