This question is out of curiosity,

My motherboard can handle a 32gb of ram at max, and I have installed two 8 gbs of rams. Hypothetically, can I add two stick of 16 gbs ram into my motherboard.
I know my motherboard won't handle it but was wondering if a 2x8 gb of rams can be compatible with an addition 2x16 gb of ram.

Thanks

If you have an Intel chip from Nehalem until Ivy Bridge, it can take only 4Gbit memory chips which are 512MB per chip, 16 chips = 8GB maximum stick size or 32GB in 4 slots.

If you have a later Intel chip or an AMD chip it should work fine and the 32GB limit in the manual may just be because they never qualified more than that, or 16GB sticks were not yet available for testing.
