Right I am still confused.
Please help.
Things have changed a lot since I built my last computer. I've forgotten stuff, I've learned new stuff and I find it difficult to make decisions.. and I just need a final nudge to help me finish buying the bits.
I have bought pretty much everything apart from monitor and keyboard and a regular HDD to go with the SSD.
The main part of the system is:
Intel i5 4690k CPU, which I got cos it was same price as 4690
EVO 212 cooler
Asus Z97 PRO Wi-Fi AC motherboard
Now I can bet 1866MHz Corsair V Pro CL9 memory for same price as 1600MHz Corsair V Pro CL9 memory. I understand both are 1.5v. Am I right in thinking that I could adjust the 1866 to run at the same timings etc as the 1600, but that I can set XMP in bios on the Asus to run the 1866 at 1866 at Corsair's specified timings should I want to?
I guess one of the reasons I am confused is that my 12 year old Athlon never allowed ram and CPU to be run at different settings.. everything scaled up or down i.e. CPU and RAM and PCI bus when overclocking.. I guess I am just confused.. if I ran the memory at 1866 at Corsair specified settings would anything change with the CPU? Would its settings change? I understand Intel recommend 1600 memory speeds with the 4690k..
But since 1866 and 1600 are the same price, wouldn't I be better off buying the 1866?
What would you do, sorry for asking again.. I just don't want to make a mistake ordering wrong bits.. it just occurred to me that the 1866 was likely to be better binned memory..
Be gentle with me.. I will finally get it.
