Greetings everyone, i am planning to upgrade my LG W1942S monitor to a new one. I am thinking of buying a 27 inch monitor and i read that 1080p looks okay for 27 inch monitor. So i am planning to save the money and buy a 27 Inch 1440p monitor (Benq GW2765HT) which costs 540$ (35,000rs) in our country.

But my main usage will be lot of video streaming. Playing less graphic required games (so decent response time is fine) and reading of articles.

So for my usage will 1080p do justice or wait and go for the 1440p?

Solution
if you plan to keep it for many years, get the best 1440p unit you can, forget any 1080p options you find

also consider if you would like any sync technology, if you like amd or nvidia and games is a part of your plan for the monitor a lg unit with freesync could be a great option
Well going from a 1440x900 monitor to a 2560x1440p monitor would be a large jump in pixels and pixel density on a larger screen. A 27in 1080p monitor wont be as big of a jump in terms of pixel density versus your old monitor, I personally think 27in is too big for a 1080p monitor if you want decent pixel density. I think you would be far more impressed with the 1440p monitor, personally I would save for that.

in this size, you could feel the need for 1440p

1080 is just okay if you feel comfortable with decent resolutions but a new monitor with low resolution could annoy you fast, you could discover that 1080p is okay for you if you use another equal model on a store for a while

this could tell you if you will accept this resolution and size or not

thinking in the future, 1440p is the way to go on that size

Thank you for the kind insight, i am going to make the jump after almost 6 years. So don't want to go for anything low.. Invest one time and enjoy that is what i am interested in. Thank you once again.

Thank you for the information, my target now is get a 1440p. Benq GW2765HT is the cheapest IPS 1440p monitor available and i believe it suits my need very well. I will start saving more and get my hands on this monitor.

Oh why.. I checked out Dell, LG the starting price is around 680$ for 27 Inch 1440p. Stupid Tax :x

One more query, i don't have a dedicated GPU and i use my on-board GPU to play games. If i connect this monitor with my on-board GPU will it be a problem. Will it affect my CPU?

It wont affect the cpu, the cpu may be used less as more of the load will be shifted to the iGPU when playing games at higher resolutions.

Not sure what games you play but unless they are very non intensive the iGPU likely wont be enough to run them at a decent framerate at 1440p. Games are harder to run the more you increase the resolution, 2560x1440 is 3 times the resolution of your old 900p monitor. So whatever framerates you got in games at 900p, you can divide that by 3 and that's what you will get at 1440p, about its not always as linear as that.

The most played games is Counter Strike series (CZ, 1.6 and GO) and i might go for 1050ti once i get enough money for it.
