19" monitor owners: How do you read text any more?

OK, just got a brand new 19" monitor, did the calculations and found that the optimum resolution for this model is 1600X1200.

However, adjusting resolution is one thing, now on the other hand Windows text is so microscopic that it hearts my eyes !

Even at 1280X1024 the text is too small to be comfortable.

BTW Adjusting the Appearence setting in the Dispaly Properties does not help 100%. For example all dialogues in the Windows control panel have a default system text which cannot be adjusted.

How do you people do it?? How can you live with such small fonts? Or is there a way to change that.

P.S. Changing the "Display font" size through the Monitor Tab did not have any effect either

I find it fine running "medium" font size in 1280x1024. Might take a while to get used to.

I have two 19 inch Monitor both set at 1280 x 1024 and the text is fine.

Yeah 1280x1024 is optimum on 19" monitors for me too.

I need a screen in excess of 21" to use 1600x1200 comfortably.

Any change takes a while to get used to though.

i have a monitor optimal for 1600 and yet when i run it at 1280 x 1024 the text is too small and a buit blurry. i ahve asony g420, shoudl the text be not that sharp at that res, or is there somehitng worng with the monitor? 1024x768 ir perfect though.

Yep, same here.
After playing around with resolution settings (and refresh rates) I found out that only way to endure 10-12 hour/day of work constantly looking at the monitor is at:
1024 X 768 @85hz
1152 X 864 is probably OK as well, except my monitor can only do 70hz at that setting which gives me a headache after 2-3hours of continuous use.

The refresh HAS to be 85hz(or higher) for continuous computer work. (I still have 20/20 without correction and intend to keep it as such).

As of now I officially give up getting caught into an ego game of trying to "floor it" to 1600 X 1200 or even 1280 X 1024. No Thanks, reality has to come first.

My system with dual monitor a SONY G400 and Mitsubishi Pro 900u. The text is pretty clear at 1280x1024 on both monitor.

well, i did spend a bunch of money for this 19" sony g420 so i guess i'll give 1280x1024 a shot for a while. the only way i can easily read text at this res is by scaling and it seems to be working pretty well, although the icons in my startup tray look a bit wierd. but oh well, i'll try it for the weeknd.
