1920x1200 small monitors

Are there any companies out there that make 1920x1200 monitors sized between 17 and 22 inches? I'm currently using a laptop with a 17 inch 1920x1200 screen, but I'm planning to build a desktop soon. I don't have the space (or desire) for a gigantic desktop monitor, and I don't want a (comparatively) lousy resolution either. I really would like to not have to degrade visual quality by spreading the same resolution over a significantly larger area (most 1920x1200 monitors I can find are at least 25 inches). It has to be possible to make smaller monitors with decent resolutions, since laptops always have them, but does anyone know if anyone makes monitors in between laptop and gigantic desktop size? Or am I stuck with just ripping the monitor out of my laptop and fitting it into an old stand?

Good question. I took a look around, but the smallest I could find with 1920x1200 resolution were all 24 inchers. I have a 23'' monitor at 1920x1080 and I think the visual quality isn't degraded at all, so I don't think you'll take much of a hit by going with a 24" monitor.

Thanks for your reply, at least I'm not the only one who couldn't find anything. I know I'm really limiting my choices by not considering the extra-wide 16:9 resolutions, but I have a tv for movies and my consoles, 16:10 is a lot more manageable for games and general purpose use than 16:9. I suppose the old 4:3 standard isn't really bad, but I'm not sure how well I'd be able to adapt to it again after using widescreen for the past 4 years, and a quick newegg search suggests that 4:3 monitors with resolutions over 1280x1024 tend to be quite pricey (compared to similar sized widescreen monitors anyway). I guess that just means I'll have to decide if I'd rather buy a monitor that is large to the point it bothers me (I have an old 19 inch 4:3 monitor that I use on occasion and it bothers me that it's so big compared to the 17 inch widescreen monitor I usually use), or a monitor that is only 1680x1050 but a manageable size. If anyone has any advice on which way to go it would be helpful.

I have an acer 24 inch 1920x1200 and i love it,blu-ray on it is awesome....and games look great at that res...people say its pretty big when they first see it,but you get so used to the size that it actually starts to look small after using it for a while.....

So its pretty clear no one makes monitors supporting 1920x1200 in any sizes in between 17 inch and 24 inch, my question now becomes, does anyone have any idea why?

No standard off the shelf 17" model I believe you are correct, probably due to price/cost effectiveness.
 
I am just wonder can we buy a display panel driver to drive the display panel from the Mac book Pro or Dell 17" laptop  ( this panel can be purchased as parts easily).  I am searching for this today and notice this discussion topic. A couple hours have pass   with no other result yet. May be I should start looking at the MAC forums 🙁
 
For the normal 15" panel there are plenty around!
 
Hope someone can give us some pointers on where to search.  I expect to it will cost me the same price as a 24" mon or more for the parts. Just that I have the need for such resolution and space available.
