2 audio streams, 2 outputdevices

So Ladies, gentlemen,

I have a sound situation. I wish my game sound would go through my headset and my chromebrowser sound to my (external) speakers. It drives me mad because I know it works.

First of all everything comes through one audio device, I don't want that, I want it split one on one.

At a clever moment I figured that connecting my monitor with hdmi I could get sound out of my monitor, where I then can put my headphones in. Believe it or not, it worked. My game sound was going through the HDMI (by some miracle) and the browser sound was going to my audio output of my desktop. Very happy I was.

Now. I did a system reboot. And the sound isn't split anymore...

HOW DO I RE-DO it?

Ok, i just installed a software called chevolume again. And it works again. I installed it before but deleted it. Now, it is a wonderful program. But is there a freeware alternatife?
