2 Monitors not working at the same time (they used to)

Hey all-

I have a set of dual monitors which I've been using for a good couple of months now. Both HDMI cables are in the same port, on my graphics card (GEForce GTX 1060). About last week, my second one stopped working. I turn it on, and the "No Signal" message pops up.

I do some scouring on the internet. All of my display drivers are up to date, all the cables are fine, the monitor works. Pretty much every answer I've seen work for others don't seem to be working for me.

Something that's different with my problem that I haven't seen on other forums however, is that both of my monitors work- only not at the same time. Hitting the "WIN+P" keys (also going into the "display settings") and clicking on extend displays, only my primary monitor works. I change it to only show on 1- still, only my primary works. Then, I try showing only on 2. All of a sudden, my secondary turns on, and my primary goes to the "No Signal" message. In the Windows Display Settings, when I click "Detect", it says that it "didn't detect another display".

I'm pretty much at a loss, because I know both work, just not at the same time, and I feel like there's a really simple answer I'm just overlooking because I'm fairly new to this. If anything needs to be specified, let me know. Any help is immensely appreciated.

Make sure your drivers for the 1060 are the most current. I suspect a Windows update messed up some of your settings. Download and install NVIVIA Control Panel from GeForce (I think that is where I got mine), and use it to set up and control the monitors, rather than Windows. That way if a Windows update messes up your settings, I don't think you will have a problem.

The primary monitor is an HP w2338h - 1920 x 1080 resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio, 23".
The secondary monitor is an Acer x193w b monitor, however it is a 1440 x 900 resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio, at 19".

They are pretty different, but they have worked since I got the Acer monitor a couple of months ago.

Thanks for the fast reply!

The aspect ratio, refresh rate, resolution or size of the 2 monitors shouldn't matter. I have 3 different monitors running from my low-end Geforce GT 710 (one of which is my 42" LG tv connected via HDMI when I need it).

Are you using NVIDIA Control Panel to set up the monitors?

I've never heard of NVIDIA Control Panel, so I assume I'm not, unless it is automatic. I've never done anything manually with NVIDIA Control Panel.

Thank you so much! I didn't know this existed. I clicked "change resolution" and it was set to its native resolution, 1440 x 900. I changed it to a random one, and it came on! So I changed it back to its native resolution and it is now back to normal! Thank you (and to natx808) for your help!
