only way it makes sense is if you raid 1 2 ssds to make sure you dont lose your stuff because either drive can fail and you can lose your stuff
That makes even less sense.
how does raid 1 makes less sense 1 drive fails and you still have all of your stuff left just replace 1 drive ?
Given the OP's proposed drives....a 128GB and 512GB....that does not RAID well. You are left with a 128GB 'drive'.
And with a RAID, any RAID level, you still need an actual backup of your critical data.
The OS and applications are easily recreated. Your personal data is not. And as such should live in multiple places. Presuming you have another copy of 'your stuff', why bother with wasting drive space on a RAID 1?
If I were running a webstore, where downtime = lost sales, sure.
But if my personal PC is down for a day while I rebuild, no worries.
