24" 2K IPS monitor or better options available?

Hi folks,

I'm looking for a monitor around 24 inches with good detail (i.e. sharp text and clear images), wide viewing angles and decent colour (doesn't have to be professional level).

Would it be best for me to go with an IPS or AMVA monitor perhaps?

Do I need QHD/2K to have sharp text on my screen or is there other spec I should look for (e.g. PPI/pixel density or contrast ratio)?

I had a ViewSonic VX2363SMHL 23" IPS monitor before and was not impressed with the clarity/sharpness of the screen (and I returned the product). So I'm looking for something better.

The p2461d

I would guess yes, even the HD 4600 can run a 4K monitor. If they passed the HDMI through either way it should be able to handle it. Best to check the manufacturer's specs though.

Ah ok, where did you find the Dell P2416D on TFTcentral by the way? I couldn't find the link (and you mentioned in a previous message that it said the P2416D was 8bit).

Great, so HDMI should work for 4K at 60Hz... Which manufacturer specs should I check? The specs for the graphics cards or other components? I think the HDMI connection could limit things, though I'm not sure...

Make sure it's HDMI 1.4 if you're using it over Display Port!

You would need to check the supported resolutions from whoever made the laptop, simple as that. Laptop motherboards are pretty unique, they may not have implemented 4K over HDMI. Would have been silly, but OEMs cut corners wherever and HDMI does have a licensing fee.

I read today that only DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 support 4K @60Hz. I have HDMI 1.4 so there's no point in me getting a 4K monitor by the sounds of it :-/

Looks like the Dell P2416D is only 6-bit (+dithering) after all then from that review on pcmonitors.info.
