I am about to upgrade my old 2500k Intel i5 as it has started to slow down my gaming system and it has some lag spykes here and there. I currently use an ATI rx 580 which I will replace with a Nvidia 2060 in the next month too play games in max settings in a 1080p monitor . So my question here is should I go for the new generation 3600 cpu or a 2600 is enough, considering that the 2600 is priced at 125 € when the 3600 is 220€

CPU:?
Motherboard: am4 whatever
Ram: 16gb 3200mhz
SSD/HDD:
GPU: rtx 2060
PSU: 750 watt corsair
Chasis: don't know

I ve seen many comparisons in YouTube and I noticed no change in fps when the 2060 was paired with 3600 or 2600. This is why I am wondering if it is a good idea to invest the extra 100 for the cpu or not.

Let's suppose that I will buy a 144hz freesync monitor in the future.
I can understand that if I buy the 3600 over the 2600 I will be able to reach more fps as the 2600 caps at about 110 to 120 fps where the 3600 can reach about 140 in AAA titles.
But in most recent games rtx 2060 can reach about 70 to 100 fps when graphics are maxed out. So what is the reason I should consider the 3600 if in order to play aaa games(metro exodus,ac odyssey) at a 144hz screen with 140 fps I should buy a 2080?

OK I ve bought the 3600 because I found it at 195€ sales. I ve read in many forums that the msi motherboards are good especially the b450 Tomahawk max. I ve found the x470 gaming plus max at the same price. Which one is better?

Go with X470. just make sure that the shop you will buy will update your bios so it will be compatible with ryzen 5 3600.

I thought that the max version has the USB bios update feature

The B450 tomahawk max already has a sticker with Ryzen 3000 ready. for X470, if it doesnt have ryzen 3000 sticker, it means you need to update the bios before you can use. the usb bios update feature is mostly found on high end board or MSI boards i believe. but just to be safe, tell to the shop that you are buying and let them update the bios for you.

Personally I think you'd be better off getting an RX 5700 instead of the 2060, and get an R5 3600 instead of the 2600. There's zero point getting older hardware.
