Last time I checked Windows does not natively burn a International Standards Organization (ISO) files like Linux and OS X can. You have to buy or find free-ware to do it. There is a nice free one called Image Burner that works well with XP, Vista too I believe. MS does not want to officially support it probably because they have no control (DRM) or do not make any profit from it.
Want a better ISO image thats free, wait till tomorrow and download Ubuntu 9.10, release date of 29 Oct.

I cant find the .iso for the Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I bought it, but there was no option to download an .iso, only the .exe file. They still need to fix this! Does anyone know where to find it?

That is true for previous versions of windows, but windows 7 introduces a built in ISO burner :).

On a side note, i too am excited to get ubuntu karmic koala 😀

the link is flaky, that's why there's more problems.microsoft should have tested all this before going public, and as for digital river they should have done the same.

a download manager is required to compile the iso file because of connection issues, what a mess.

^i understand what your saying, but in a release as big is this it is practically impossible for them to catch all the bugs. All in all i think they have done a good job with this release, but that is just my opinion.

arrr 6 days after purchase/release, and I'm still waiting. I've tried to download this new and improved ISO file but here we go again - three operating systems, and three different isp's, the file still stops after a small percentage of the file downloads...

"Microsoft has worked with distributor Digital River to come up with a solution that should fix all issues."
right....

they need mirrors. I don't think it makes sense to only use one distribution server.

I think "solved" is wishful thinking. Yes, they have put up a page to document the problem (after a week!). But you still have to contact support (or follow some bizarre command line wizardry) to get a modern Windows 7 64bit running on your XP PC. As long as they do not give you the link automatically, the process is still broken.

Is there a link to the Professional version. I d/l this file, but I can't use my key to activate it. I purchased win7 professional student edition for $29 from the same website (you could choose either premium or pro for $29) Anyone else have a link to a win7 pro ISO file?

The iso is only for home premium version of windows. If you read the following you will see that there should be a iso also for the Windows 7 Professional but it isn't there yet.

To get Pro - after you get your email link, under the Pre Order button there is a yellow box that says this:

Need to join your school's network domain? Click here

Click that and you can get 7 Pro for the same price.

( To pick the professional version, during the order/checkout process, look for "Need to join your school's network domain?" - since Premium cant connect to a domain, this is really a disguised link for you to get the Professional version for the same price )

Could you get me a link for the Professional Windows 7 iso ?

quick update - I sent Digital River a message regarding the download hanging issue on their online support page, this is the response I received back... what a mess!

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade - 64 bit. Here is additional
information for ISO file conversion.

The ISO file contains all the Windows 7 installation files combined into
a single uncompressed file. When you download the ISO file, you need to
copy it to some medium (DVD or USB flash drive) in order to install
Windows 7. A download link for the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool has
been provided. This tool allows you to create bootable media to a USB
flash drive or a DVD. Here are the links that you’ll need:

very lame... 7 days, still no working Windows 7

DOH! Not working even with IE7 -- ran for a minute but said "download complete" at 70-ish MB -- hopefully the link they send me via customer support will work.

TOMS: please remove this damned link -- it is just wasting everyone's time!!!!

Hello,

The page you refer me to is for the iso for the home premium version. I and others are looking for the iso for the Professional version to download from Digitalriver. As of now it isn't available.

For people with the Windows 7 Pro exe who need to make an ISO:
