Hello Guys! First of all I want to make it known that I'm kind of a noob when it comes to pc components and I am just getting into it! I bought a 290x Lightning gpu and I am monitoring her (I think I should call it a her since it is that beautiful 😛) temperatures! When I am doing things like sending messages on facebook she is around 35-40 °C! When I am watching Youtube videos she is between 40 and sometimes as high as 50°C (all that with the fans being on 30-45% speed)! My case is Phanteks Enthoo Pro Window and the only fans I have (for now) are the 2 pre-installed ones. My psu is a Corsair Rm 750. The only game I played (on 1440p) was witcher 2 and the gpu went to like 75°C really fast! I know that isnt a lot actually but from all the reviews I seen the gpu would go to like 65-70 under heavy load! So it shouldnt hit that temps with a game that doesn't make her sweat right? So after researching on google I saw one or two people mentioning that I should switch the switch (haha) to ln2 and that the ln2 bios is better for the temps! I did and while surfing the internet the card wouldn't go higher the 33°C! I didn't play any game because I wanted to first ask if using ln2 mode is safe! Since I ain't overclocking yet and the only things I found on google about ln2 was from guys that were talking about oveclock I want to ask: Is it ok to use this mode? Without overclocking? Can It harm my gpu? Or is it better if I do? Sorry for the silly questions and for the loooooong post!

tl;dr Is it ok to use ln2 mode on a 290x card without overclocking and just using aircooling?

Solution
The only reason the LN2 mode is cooler as it runs it removes the factory overclock (so you can do you own overclocking from scratch and adjust more settings). So its cooler because its running slower and using less power.

It wont harm anything :)

Correction thats the thermal throttle temperature. It will slow itself down to protect itself if it reaches 95c. The R9 290X is known tho run very hot, but your current temps seems alright, even the ones before the ln2 mode in my opinion. It shouldnt be an issue. My card while playing gta v hovers around 70-80c which is normal for the card. I hope this helps although the person above may answered it already xD
