I'm curious what options exist here... I am looking for USB computer speakers that do NOT have actual rear speakers but can provide some illusion of directional sound, preferably inexpensive. I am well aware that it won't equal discrete 5.1 channels for directionality, and priority is directionality for games and not sound quality, in this setting I don't want them to be booming. Must be USB. I don't care about RGB, but if they have it, then it needs to be able to be turned off or set to 0-0-0.

So far I see the Logitech G560 and the Razer Leviathans and maybe Creative Stage 360. I would prefer something even less expensive as this is a secondary setup and doesn't need to sound great, I just need to be able to tell if enemies are behind me, which the current (REALLY cheap) Logitech S150 speakers provide ZERO concept of. I've had gaming laptops that I could somehow place enemies from audio cues with 2 speakers - not like when I'm using on the Z906s on my main system, but I wasn't dying because I thought the enemy was in front of me and was actually behind me either. I have some Logitech headphones that do a pretty decent job at fake 7.1, I know it can be done to some degree.

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas, I'm curious. Thanks in advance,

If you look through the manual for the Stage 360, the USB port is meant for firmware updates, not for hooking up to the PC, which leads me to ask why are you leaning towards USB input? You can get your soundcard to do virtual upmixing, which is what virtual surround is essentially.

These show up when narrowing down USB input but with a 2.1 setup;

How about this if you're looking at analog input;

Because it's hooking up to a Minisforum UM780XTX mini-PC that doesn't have a sound card or analog outs. I have an Oculink eGPU running a 6800xt so it's quite capable for gaming.

It's an odd setup, it's a secondary PC we have set up on half of the dining room table, which works fine because there's only 2 of us 99% of the time, but needs to be easily taken down for when we have company. I actually have an Asus Xonar 7.1 USB sound card with analog outs sitting around somewhere, which certainly opens up more options, but also makes way more of a spaghetti mess in the dining room area - I'm currently able to make it look neat, with the eGPU hidden away on a chair underneath the table it just looks like a neatly kept desk setup. So anyway, analog is off the table, literally.
