2k series compatible with my computer?

I'm interested in trying out some of the 2K sport games, but am not really sure if my computer could handle them or play them at a normal level.

Should be fine. You might not run NBA2k12 with 16x QSAA or anything, but you'll be able to run the games and they should look pretty good. The biggest problem you'll have is the severe lack of sports games available for PC, to be honest.

Solution
your gimping your system by just running off 1 stick of ram. get the other 2 gig stick back and pair it with the 1 you have and get yer dad another mem module...
seriously m8 your reducing your overall performance seriously by not implementing dual channel mode for the ram...
