im very interested in buying a 17 or 18 inch LCD but should i wait. what can i expect in the LCD market aournd christmas? will there be any new models?

You should wait until the January sales 😉

Personally I've been waiting for a year.

The trouble is IMHO that TFTs are such a new technology
and are expensive - relative to CRTs, immature - Colour and Motion issues and flawed - dead pixels.
