APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: August
BUDGET RANGE: US$3000

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Running a very processor intensive computer simulation model that was programmed in Fortran. On a garden variety single core 2GHz with 1GB of ram simulations can take 4-8 hours to process. The program is not very graphics intensive but I want to unload as many processes from the CPU as possible. I need dual DVI output. The computer will be in a rack in a computer room so I am not worried if it is loud. I will remote into it using RealVNC to operate it. Sometimes I will do this over VPN.

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: I am open to all suggestions.

PARTS PREFERENCES:
Intel Core I7-975 Extreme Edition
6GB 3x2GB DIMMs DDR3 2000MHz Ram (Maker?)
ASUS P6T Deluxe Motherboard

ASUS Xonar DX Sound Card
Cooler Master V8 CPU Cooler
Cooler Master UCP 900w Power Supply
2ea. Seagate Savvio 15k.5 3.0Gb/s SAS 15,000 RPM 73.4 GB HDD

Rack Mount Case (Maker?)

OVERCLOCKING: Yes. Interested in recommendations on how much I can go.

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: No

MONITOR RESOLUTION: Not critical

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Doesn’t need to be quiet or wonderful looking. I have not built a computer before, but have changed drives and HDD’s, added ram and changed cards.

Thanks in Advance,

John R.

I forgot to mention I have an 2004 HP Proliant ML350 G3 5U rack server that I could gut out for the case. I am not sure if it would work though.
