As in my previous thread on November ( https://forums.tomshardware.com/thr...h-3080-bricked-1080-ti.3733589/#post-22515975 ), my 3080 and 1080 ti cards show erratic behavior when I use any nvidia driver later than the 472.12 version. I've been stuck using those ever since. The incompatibility lies with the 1080ti, as I have discovered, which I use merely for mining.

Now, though, that the hashrate of my 3080 LHR can be 100% unlocked using the newest miner versions, I I'd like to update my drivers. Attempted using the 100% unlocked miners (T-Rex and NBminer) with the 472.12 driver version and it's unstable, as expected and explained in the release notes of the 100% unlocked miners. When I tried disabling the 1080ti and updating to the latest driver the miner works perfectly.
I've emailed nvidia back then, where they merely asked my system information and that was it. I, myself found the, albeit temporary, solution.
The "symptoms" when I use any driver above 472.12 are:
  1. The whole system becomes extremely sluggish, needing around one minute to open a window. Sometimes the cursor freezes too. Also, the more I keep using it, the worse.
  2. GPU-Z shows both cards as not having cuda, openCL or physX enabled.
  3. Having the 1080ti disabled, the 3080 with the latest drivers works normally. The opposite doesn't, so the incompatibility must be with the 1080ti.
Why would the card work as normal with older drivers and how while being a secondary card would it bring my whole system on its knees?
Any insights?

The system is as follows:
CPU: 8700K
M/B: Asus Rog Maximus X formula
RAM: Trident Z Neo 32GB 3600 CL16
PSU: EVGA Supernova 1600 P2
GPU1: Galax HOF 1080 ti lab edition
GPU2: Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC waterforce
OS: Windows 10 PRO 64-bit

I've been using T-Rex 0.25.12 along with 472.12 and all works well. Attempting to use NBMiner 41.3/41.5 and T-Rex 0.26.1 and i get black screen / system crash after a couple of minutes, as expected per the release notes of the miners. Upgrading to any later version results in the issues I mention.
Maybe the fact that the card uses a special PCB is at fault? It's a Galax HOF 1080 ti.
