[SOLVED] 3080 Ti vs 3090 performance comparison?

Solution
A 3080 FE is about 6-8% slower then a 3090 FE, Nvidia slotted the 3080 Ti FE in between those two, its about 2-3% slower then a 3090 FE.

JayzTwoCents did a review where he said an overclocked version from EVGA with a triple slot cooler, gamed as fast or faster than a founders 3090, despite the reduced core count and half the memory. The founders version, wasn't that hot compared to a founders 3080. If you want 3090 performance, for less money, an overclocked version might be a good deal, otherwise the founders 3080 is a better deal than founders 3080Ti. Steve, from Gamers Nexus, said pretty much the same thing about the founders 3080 being the better deal. He didn't review any overclocked cards, though.

I, personally, have a feeling that the yield on chips suitable for the 3090 is not as high as they would like, and the 3080Ti may be replacing it. I haven't actually heard anything to support this theory, it's just my opinion. This product just makes no sense, otherwise.

Last Fall when the 3000 series GPUs were starting to come out, I sold my 2070 S and slapped in a 1050 ti until the 3000’s were available…planning on getting a 3070 or 3080…well that didn’t work out well.

I’ve been waiting patiently and intrigued by the 3080 ti…when the 3080 ti was delayed, I finally started entering the Newegg shuffles for gpu-only offerings (never the combo deals) for 3070 and 3080’s.

With the 3080 ti launch imminent, I stopped entering Shuffles until I could see what the 3080 ti availability was. I started watching MC and Best Buy but they were in-store only with no guarantee of actual stock availability…

Quite by accident I checked Newegg this morning and found a Shuffle nearly ended with several 3080 ti card-only offerings so I entered several (none were FE) and wound up getting a Gigabyte 3080 ti Gaming.

There’s mixed reviews and comparisons… most early reviews suggest the 3080 ti largely has the computational power of the 3090 with half the memory.

If I could buy whatever I wanted for a reasonable price, I would have picked the 3080 ti…and it was a reasonable price…I would never buy anything at the scalper prices. Looking at what 3080 ti’s are bidded up to on eBay, I could turn a quick profit but this is my hobby not a business.

Most early reviews suggest the 3080 ti largely has the computational power of the 3090 with half the memory.

So I’m happy….of course when I get the card next Wednesday, I expect to be fighting some new device driver issues…but that’s what makes the hobby interesting!!

At the same time, the difference in price is already greater in percentage terms.

The MSRP is nearly double the 3080 and with only a 3-4% improvement in performance. It's a complete ripoff at that price. nVidia is only getting away with this because of the crazy GPU prices and low availability of graphics cards right now. In saner times, nobody would buy it.
