Question Buzzing noise from case fans

This is a very minor noise and some wouldnt mind it that much but sadly i am not one of those people

This noise is surely coming from the case fans, as i unplugged the hub and the noise dissappeared.

The noise is still there even when i stopped the fans from spinning with my finger.

Anyone know what this is? Too much voltage from the hub? Is there a fix?

That rattle sound? If so, it is fan bearing noise.

Did you stop all the fans at once? Or one-by-one? Since there can be more than 1 fan that has this bearing rattle.

You said that fans are connected to the hub. Can you control the fans RPM? Since with this, you could eliminate (or lessen) the bearing rattle.

Some fans will develop bearing rattle (instability) at fixed RPM range.
E.g out of the 6x NZXT AER140 RGB fans that i have between two PCs, 3x of them produce bearing rattle when fan is spinning ~1200-1400 RPM. If fan spins slower or faster than that affected range, there is no bearing rattle.

So, increase/decrease your fan RPM and hear at which point the noise either lessens or disappears completely.

In a chance it isn't bearing rattle, then it could be vibration resonance as well. Tighten or loosen the fan screws, to get rid of the vibration noise. There are even noise dampening corners/washers and rubber "screws" that you can use to get rid of fan vibration noise. For the latter, these things,

I used to use those rubber screws for some time with my old AMD build, to see how they fared. Difficult to install. Even more difficult to take off. But since my fans didn't produce vibration noise to begin with, they had no use for me. But at least i got the experience and knowledge about them. :)

If the fans came bundled with your case and the case was cheap to begin with brand new, then you have what usually equates to bottom of the barrel fans from the case maker.

What is the make and model of the case? You speak of a hub, did this hub come bundled with your chassis? There's nothing to fix a bad quality fan.

IMHO, you should've started the video with audio away from the system and as you approached said system, zoomed into the area where the noise is coming from. Helps lend context to the source of the sound.

You can put a dampener between your case fans and the case. Sounds like your case is acting like an amplifier to the vibrations from the fan(s). Loosen the screws on the culprit fans, insert some thin rubber spaces between the fan and case and retighten screws.

Hello, so after lots of fiddling with different solutions ive come to the conclusion that i just need to switch the fans out to better ones. I have 3 questions regarding the process.

1. Can i use the Chieftec fan hub that came with my case to connect the new fans to it or do i need to use a different one?

2. Are the phanteks M25-120 Gen 2 fans an upgrade compared to these? As in, little chance for the annoying bearing rattle.

3. If the phanteks fans are indeed a good upgrade would the chieftec fan hub be compatable with those fans or would it result in a smoke show?

That rattle sound? If so, it is fan bearing noise.

Yes i can control the RPM. If i put them to run at a lower speed the rattling would quiet down a bit. 550-600RPM seemed to be the least noise but still noticeable for me if i use the pc without headphones.
If i run the fans at higher speeds, the rattle gets louder but is masked by the airflow at 100% but that is less than ideal as i would prefer a quieter operation lol

The noise comes from 4 of the 6 same brand fans.

As a reference point to how seemingly quiet this noise is; i had a friend come over and they couldnt hear it untill they went right up against the fans.

Take a pic of the fan hub, especially it's connectors when there's nothing plugged into it.
Upload the pic to the net, e.g www.imgur.com and share the image(s) here.

Since based on the pics, we can tell if it uses proprietary connectors, only compatible with the fans it came with. Or if it uses universal ones, making you able to re-use it.

These things?

If so, for 120mm fan, they have good airflow and high static pressure.
140mm variant has even higher airflow but a bit lower static pressure.

However, Phanteks fans have proprietary connector between them and you have to use the Linq6 Mainboard Adapter. Also, since all fans are daisy-chained together, you can not control the fan RPM individually. You only have one 4-pin PWM header per 3x fans.
For RGB, same Linq6 adapter has standard 3-pin +5V ARGB header, that you can hook directly to MoBo. It also has D-RGB controller connector, to be connected to Phanteks D-RGB controller (if you buy that one as well).

Control of the fans is either via Phanteks NexLinq software or your MoBo RGB software.

With these fans, you can't use your previous fan hub, UNLESS the fan hub you have, has standard 4-pin PWM fan headers and you plan to use more than 3x Phanteks fans.

If you pay peanuts - you will get monkeys. Which you did.

Bearing rattle can develop over time as well. This was so with my NZXT AER140 RGB fans. Brand new fans didn't produce any rattle. (Btw, my NZXT AER140 RGB fans are now 8+ years old now. Bought them Q2 '17.) But after ~4 years, the rattle stated to appear. Not as loud as you may think, but since i too am sensitive to this kind of rattle noise, i can hear it clearly. Though, for me, the rattle sounds in the fixed RPM range and i can fix it by running my fans outside of that range. :)
