Recently, one of my 8gb RAM died. Now I am confused that should I but the same 8gb RAM keeping the same config as before i.e. 16 gb RAM in total. Or should I buy another 16gb RAM and upgrade my system to have 24 gb RAM in total.
Please suggest what should I do.

I have Asus ROG G512LI.

Solution
Will my laptop have some issue if I put 8+16gb = 24gb RAM?
Or will 8x2gb = 16gb perform better than 24gb?
It might.
First 8+16 will not run in dual channel mode. It will be either single channel or flex mode.
8+8 will run in dual channel, so better.

But if you're not using ram modules from same kit, this can introduce compatibility issues.

So best option is to get either
8GB+8GB dual channel kit or
16+16GB dual channel kit.

Are you suggesting I buy a whole new kit?
I have to buy only one ram as one 8gb ram is still working. If I get a whole new kit one ram would go to waste.

If you want to eliminate possible compatibility issues, then yes - buy whole new kit.

Or you can risk it.
It may work just fine,
it may have some minor issues requiring manual tweaks with ram parameters in BIOS or
it may refuse to work altogether.

Last one has pretty minor chance of happening. But it's still possible.
